About the Presenters...
Monica Law, LMSW, received her BA degree from Michigan State University and MSW from the University of Michigan, and has been a counselor, supervisor, administrator and consultant for over 25 years. Throughout her career, she has focused on utilizing leading-edge ideas and methods to enable individuals and organizations to create and maintain positive change. In family counseling settings and in private practice, she has worked with adults of all ages to successfully navigate life challenges. As clinical services supervisor within a corporation which included several counseling centers, she worked with professional staff to maximize their effectiveness in assisting clients with realizing their goals and potential. She also supervised numerous graduate social work interns. As a senior counselor and coordinator of clinical services at University of Michigan Counseling and Psychological Services, Monica was able to combine both clinical and administrative interests by working individually with students seeking personal change, as well as focusing on program design, implementation and evaluation.
She has a special interest in the practical application of our natural intuitive wisdom in creating a healthy, balanced and successful life and has given numerous workshops and presentations on this and related topics for major universities and conferences.
Growing up in a large family, Doreen Murasky, developed a keen interest in lifespan development, family dynamics, transitions and life choices. She attended the University of Michigan, earning an undergraduate degree in psychology and a master's degree in social work. For over two decades at the University of Michigan and in private practice, she has assisted adults in individual, group and workshop formats in managing crisis and transitions, identifying strengths and life goals and overcoming obstacles to achieve them. She has published and practiced in the area of peer counseling programs. For the past 12 years she has been a senior counselor at The Center for the Education of Women and has enjoyed the privilege of working with creative, resourceful adults trying to construct a balanced, meaningful life in times of rapid change. Ms. Murasky is a job search advisor for a company that specializes in dual career and family relocation services. In addition, she is a co-founder of Midlife Renaissance, an enterprise which specializes in creating fulfillment at midlife and beyond.
Ms. Murasky has a strong interest in the great outdoors and weaves lessons from nature into her programs. She is an avid gardener and enjoys creating unusual floral displays. She lives with her husband and two children in Dexter, Michigan.
Penny Tropman, LMSW, earned her B.A. degree with honors from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, MN, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She received her social work degree from the University of Chicago, also with honors, and has spent her professional career working in the fields of child welfare, individual and family counseling, and college mental health. For 26 years, she was a senior counselor and supervisor at the University of Michigan Counseling and Psychological Services. She has much experience working with adults in transition, both from her many years working with college students in transition as well as from her work with numerous adults as a private practitioner. She has taught social work as an adjunct professor at Michigan State University, and is currently an adjunct professor at the University of Michigan where she has taught for the past 15 years. She is an author of the teachers guide to Social Work and Contemporary Society.
Penny brings many years of clinical training, wisdom and experience to her participation in Midlife Renaissance. She has designed and presented workshops on "Pathways to Renewal" for men and women at midlife and beyond in many venues. Together with John Tropman, she has delivered a two-part workshop on "Couples Renewal" for Pfizer employees in November of 2006. She and her colleagues are focusing their current research and presentation skills on workshops which address issues of "Career Resilience," at all ages but especially at midlife and beyond.
John Tropman, Ph.D., attended Oberlin College, the University of Chicago, where he earned an M.S.W., and the University of Michigan, from which he received a Ph.D. in Sociology and Social Work. John is Professor of Human Services Management at the University of Michigan School of Social Work, and is an Adjunct Professor of Management and Organization in the UM Ross Business School. Added to his list of numerous published books is his most recent (2006), Supervision and Management in the Human Services: How to Avoid Becoming the Manager You Always Hated. John often uses his expertise in areas of leadership to conduct workshops and other programs with corporate and non-profit clients. He is also learning the art of following as he plays with his five grandchildren.
Lisa Tulin-Silver received her BA from Brandeis University and her Master's degree in social work from the University of Michigan. She has centered her professional career on assisting people to create desired changes in their lives. She has been a senior counselor at The University of Michigan Counseling and Psychological Services where she supervised graduate social work students, led short-term groups and workshops, organized campus-wide programs and counseled students planning their future careers. As a senior counselor at the UM Center for the Education of Women, she worked with people in the development of their educational planning and career transitions. She has a strong background in work/family balance and was a pioneer in job-sharing within the UM system. She and her job share partner, Doreen Murasky, presented programs for all university employees on how to develop flexible working arrangements.
Lisa is a co-founder of Midlife Renaissance. She and her husband, Jeffrey Tulin-Silver MD, have designed and presented workshops to Pfizer employees on "Healthy Aging". They have two adult children. Lisa loves to travel and has enjoyed her journeys to many interesting locales around the world.
Jeffrey Tulin-Silver, M.D. is board certified in internal medicine, allergy and clinical immunology. He received his M.D. from Boston University School of Medicine and completed an Allergy and Immunology Fellowship at the University of Michigan. He is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine and he is affiliated with William Beaumont Hospital, Providence Hospital and Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital. He has been recognized in "Hour Magazine" as a "Top Doctor Allergist". In addition to his medical practice, he is an inventor, receiving a US patent on a treatment method for acute or chronic rhinosinusitis.
